Brief personal history: Born on a flimsy boat bringing Haitian refugees to the United States, Moses Desalines began to show signs of his prodigious intelligence at the age of six. By the age of eight he displayed advanced understanding of theoretical physics and by fourteen he had already received numerous degrees in the fields of engineering, physics, chemistry and mathematics. He would later go on to earn PhD's in mathematics; particle, muclear and astro-particle physics; engineering and computer science before his eighteenth birthday. He started Des-Tek and built it into a multi-million dollar company by the time he turned twenty-one. Moses' meteoric rise did not go unnoticed. His early academic achievements were well covered by the press and with his millionaire status, celebrity and fame soon followed. Moses Desalines; lowly refugee boat baby, now genius and millionaire, became one of the world's most eligible bachelors. Not everyone however cheered his success.

Longtime academic and business rival (and secret arms and tech dealer) Donald Nagar, hired mercenaries to steal a Des-Tek prototype; a device designed to explore the spaces between possible parallel universes for the purpose of discovering new sources of energy. Desalines was present during the theft and when a stray bullet caused the machine to malfunction, he found himself pulled through a tear in the fabric of our universe into a space between dimensions. Desalines would have perished in the airless void of the in-between had he not collided with a creature indigenous to the space. The creature's unstable molecular structure caused them to merge upon contact, inadvertently saving Desalines from death but leaving him with four octopus-like tentacles and a gaping portal of a maw on his abdomen. He then spent months searching for a way out of his other dimensional exile; eventually finding one when Nagar's scientists tried activating his device in our universe. He returned to a world that believed him six months dead.

Broken and bitter, Desalines became a recluse. Attempts to rectify his condition met with failure. Even amputation met with little success, as his tentacles would simply regenerate within hours. He began to venture out under the cover of darkness to hunt for Nagar and terrorize his illegal operations. One night while disrupting one of Nagar's illegal human experimentation operations he was caught on film saving a woman from harm. In the media sensation that followed an entertainment news host dubbed him "the Kraken." When he finally revealed himself to the world he found that he was now even more famous than before. Not only was he a target for eligible bachelorettes, due to his heroics he was now under threat from "super villains" too. That's when he received a call from John Henry of T.A.S.K. who invited him to come on board as the organizations' Special Science Consultant.

Powers and Abilities : Due to physically merging with a creature from another dimension, Kraken's molecular structure has undergone significant change. He is stronger and more durable than an ordinary human being and his endurance has also increased significantly. The most startling physical change however are the four octopus-like tentacles that now protrude from his torso. Under normal circumstances each of the tentacles is six feet long, however they can grow to a length of 25 feet should Moses desire them to (the extra mass appearently coming from an unknown extra dimensional source). Kraken's tentacles are capable of lifting several tons yet are dexterous enough to accomplish complex, minute tasks.

The dimensional portal within Kraken's chest allows him to teleport himself, and a certain amount of additional mass from one point to another. His upper limit is 5 miles.

Moses Desalines is arguably the smartest man in the world.
